Retired school teacher Marjorie P.
McCracken, 87, of Paris died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Henry County Healthcare Center. Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at McEvoy Funeral Home. Jerry Massey and Carlos Owens will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. today and after 11 a.m. Thursday. Born April 1, 1921, in Buchanan, she was a daughter of the late Robert Verner Presnell and Nelle Lashlee Presnell. She was married on Aug. 17, 1957, to William P. McCracken, who died May 26, 1981. McCracken attended the University of Tennessee Junior College for two years and earned her bachelors degree in education from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, where she was enrolled for two years. She taught in Paris School Systems for 34 years and taught one year at Tolers Business College. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She also was a member of the Retired Teachers Association, the LLL Senior Adults of First Baptist Church, the Maplewood Garden Club, Fellowship Club, Beta Sigma Phi social sorority at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, Sigma Kappa, AARP and the Henry County South Camp of Gideons International. She leaves a sister: Regina P. Whitfield of Paris; and two other relatives: Jean W. McKee and Carroll Lashlee. In lieu of flowers, send memorials to First Baptist Church or Gideons International.
