James S. Evans Former Paris resident James S. Evans, 75, of Memphis died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis. His wife of 49 years Maureen Evans survives. A sister Rita Williams lives in Paris. His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Funeral Home in Memphis. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is planned from 5-8 p.m. today. Evans held a bachelors degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin. He earned a masters degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and his doctorate in 1964 from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. He continued his formal research training as a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at UK. His research concentration throughout his career involved hormonal production and regulation of endocrine systems and he wrote several publications and journals and completed abstract research projects that are used in clarifying the mechanisms and practice of modern medicine. Evans also was a representative on numerous committees. At the UT Health Science Centers College of Medicine in Memphis, he was an instructor, assistant professor and associate professor of anatomy and neurobiology. From 1986 until recently he was director of neuroanatomy in the college of medicine. He received more than 15 outstanding teaching awards in neurobiology, neuroscience and neuroanatomy. He was a member of Briarwood Baptist Church in Cordova. He also leaves one daughter: Suzanne Evans; one son: James Tony Evans; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. |
