Henry County native Marshall
Wendell Bomar, 82, of Pensacola, Fla., died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011,
according to information given by a niece, Rosemary King of Paris. Locally he also leaves several other nieces, nephews and other relatives. His funeral will be at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens in Pensacola, with Blaine Lawlor officiating. Burial, with full naval honors, will follow in Barrancas National Cemetery. Bomar was born March 16, 1928, a son of the late Hugh R. and Lyde Mitchum Bomar. He was a 1947 graduate of Grove High School and joined the U.S. Navy soon after his graduation. In 1971, he retired as a chief petty officer. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A family member said he was an honorable man with a kind and gentle spirit. He also leaves two sons: Wendell (Wanda) Bomar of Pensacola and Raymond (Alice) Bomar of Tulsa, Okla.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his best friend, Sherry Shirah, who was his former wife. He also was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Bomar Parkhill; three brothers: James, Bernard and David Bomar; and a son, Wallace Bomar. |
