Walter Farmer Barnett ~ Obituary

The funeral service for retired Holley carburetor plant supervisor and former Henry Countian Walter Farmer Barnett of Dickinson, Texas, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Joe Geary of First United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial, with military rites, will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Chosen as pallbearers are grandsons: Mathew, Daniel and Luke Chimes, Don Reese and John Paul Barnett Reese.

Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons: Andrew and Eric Marquette.

Visitation will be after noon Saturday.

Barnett, 93, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at Total Patient Care in Webster, Texas.

Born in Henry County on June 24, 1914, he was a son of Walter Lee Barnett and Mary Pearl Farmer Barnett, both deceased.

Barnett was a member of Living Faith Outreach Church in Dickinson. He was a 1932 graduate of Grove High School and attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and Murray State University. He was a 50-year member of Paris Masonic Lodge 108.

A World War II veteran, he served from January 1942-September 1945 with the 653rd Bomb Squadron of the 8th Army Air Force. A family member said Barnett was an avid inventor.

He leaves three daughters: Peggy (Chuck) Reese of Geneva, Ill., Terra (Ron) Marquette of Castle Rock, Colo., and Mary (Patrick) Chimes of Dickinson; a sister-in-law: Opal Barnett of Paris;

Two nieces: Paula (Richard) Arnold and Pam McKenzie; three nephews: Mike (Vicky) Barnett, Brad Barnett and Barry (Leeann) Barnett; four other grandchildren: Donald (Christen), Jacquie and Sara Reese and Kate Elizabeth Marquette; four great-nieces; six great-nephews; and four great-great-nieces.

He also was preceded in death by a brother: John Barnett.
