Ashley Davis Morris
|Services for Mary Ashley Morris,
formerly of North Poplar Street, are set for 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December
5, 2012, at Ridgeway Funeral Home, with Dr. Rob Martin of First United
Methodist Church officiating.
Visitation will be 4:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 4 and 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 5.
Burial will be in Fort Donelson National Cemetery.
Mrs. Morris, a resident of Henry County Healthcare Center, died at 12:00 p.m., noon, last Friday, November 30, 2012, at Henry County Medical Center.
Named as pallbearers are Jonathan Morris, Tommy Wimberley, Brian Wimberley, Brandon Wimberley, Danny Veazey and Andrew Hooper.
She was born January 5, 1928, in Paris, daughter of the late Lorene Lansdell Davis and Gordon M. Davis.
She was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church, where she had been active in the choir and taught Sunday school.
A 1946 graduate of Grove High School, she attended Randolph Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, Va., and graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis.
She was a member of Alpha Omicron PI Sorority. After graduation, she taught in the Peoria, Ill., Elementary School System, before marrying Billy H. Morris on June 8, 1952.
For the next 28 years she enjoyed life as a military officer’s wife, living in Mineral Wells, Texas, France, Cincinnati, Ohio, Fort Belvoir, Va., and Okinawa, Japan, before returning to Paris, Tenn.
After a brief tenure as a substitute teacher at Grove Junior High School, she worked for many years at Rhea Public Library.
She was a member of the Janusette Delphian Club in Paris, the local chapters of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution and United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Paris-Henry County Arts Council, The Heritage Center, Friends of the Library and the Tennessee Historical Society.
Surviving are three sons: William H. Morris (Vicki) of New Haven, Conn., Charles A. Morris (Debbie) of Hazel, Ky., and Stephen B. Morris (Doreen) of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and three grandchildren: Ashley V. Morris, Jonathan L. Morris and Patrick F. Morris.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Lt. Col. Billy H. Morris; and her brother: Charles L. Davis.
