Joe L. Insco ~ Obituary

Paris native Joe L. Insco, 86, of St. Petersburg, Fla., died Nov. 2, 2007, at Bay Pines Veterans Medical Center there.

Insco’s wife of 64 years Sara Jane Barnette Insco survives. She is a Cadiz, Ky., native.

The body was cremated.

A private memorial service is planned at Palestine Cemetery in west Henry County. McEvoy Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Born April 16, 1921, he was a son of the late Rufus Levi and Ola Allen Jones Insco. He was raised by his grandparents the late E.Z. and Minnie Bright Jones.

A Grove High School graduate, Insco was a two-year All-State football player, according to a family member.

A World War II veteran, he served in the Army Corps of Engineers, where he was a technical sergeant building airports in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of American Legion, a life member of VFW, and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and Shriners of North America.

Insco was a highway engineer for the Commonwealth of Kentucky from 1945-1962. The family member said he helped design and supervise a portion of the Western Kentucky Parkway.

He also leaves two children: Virginia Insco Hendrick of Oklahoma City and James B. Insco of Shelbyville, Ky.; and two grandchildren: James B. Insco II of Pittsburgh and Carrie Insco McIntyre of Lexington, Ky.

He also was preceded in death by a brother: Lloyd Edward Insco.
