Former Paris resident Margaret Collins Guthrie, 92, of Humboldt died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at the Tennessee Veterans Home in Humboldt.

Her funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Humboldt.

The Rev. Larry Riley will officiate. Entombment will follow in Gibson County Memorial Gardens in Gibson.

Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Saturday. Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home in Humboldt is in charge.

Guthrie was a daughter of Robert Lee Collins and Hattie Yarbrough Collins, now both deceased.

She was the widow of Jimmy Guthrie.

She was a Grove High School graduate and a homemaker.

She leaves two daughters: Jimmye Nan Ramsey of Germantown and Peggy Wedgworth of Nashville; three sons: Richard Guthrie of Martin, Gary Guthrie of Chickamauga, Ga., and Lee Guthrie of Humboldt;

Eight grandchildren: Richie Guthrie of White House, Meg Shelly of Martin, Haley Culton and Paige Wedgworth, both of Winchester, Ky., Rob Ramsey of Cordova, Alicia Ramsey of Germantown and John and Josh Guthrie, both of Chickamauga; and five great-grandchildren: Kennedy Basham and Sam Shelly, both of Martin, Carter Guthrie of White House and Anniston and Harrison Culton, both of Winchester.

A sister, Marion Lee Lampkins, also preceded her in death.

Services for Margaret Collins Guthrie, age 92, were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church in Humboldt, Tn. with Rev. Larry Riley officiating and visitation preceding the service. Entombment followed in Gibson Co. Memory Gardens in Gibson, TN.

Mrs. Guthrie, born March 22, 1916 in Paris, passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Humboldt.

She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, James Ripley “Jimmie” Guthrie; her parents Richard Lee and Hattie (Yarbrough) Collins; and a sister Marian L. Lampkins.

Mrs. Guthrie was a homemaker and graduate of Grove High School in Paris. She was a longtime functioning member of the First United Methodist Church in Humboldt and an active volunteer in the Humboldt community. She and her late husband, a dedicated checker player, were enthusiastic travelers and visited the majority of the United States and went abroad vacationing in Europe, Russia, and the Holy Lands.

Mrs. Guthrie is survived by three sons, Richard (Jane) Guthrie of Martin, Tn., Gary (Leigh Ann) Guthrie of Chickamauga, Ga. and Lee (Denise) Guthrie of Brownsville, Tn.; two daughters, Jimmye Nan (Jack) Ramsey of Germantown, Tn., and Peggy Wedgworth of Brentwood, Tn; ten grandchildren, Richie (Kristie) Guthrie of White House, Tn., Meg (William) Shelley of Martin, Tn., Rob (Amber) Ramsey of Collierville, Tn., Alicia (Jonathan) Harrison of Memphis, Tn., Haley (David) Culton and Paige Wedgworth of Winchester, Ky., and John and Josh Guthrie, Allie and Mary Kate Pritchett of Chickamauga, Ga.; and seven great-grandchildren, Carter, Brody, and Maddox Guthrie of White House, Tn., Kennedy Basham and Sam Shelley of Martin, Tn., and Aniston and Harrison Culton of Winchester, Ky.; and many nieces and nephews.
