Miss Ruth Elizabeth Butler, 75, of Crutchfield Lane, Paris Route 3, retired schoolteacher, died Sunday morning, August 26, 1984, at Henry County General Hospital. Services will be at 2 PM Tuesday at McEvoy Funeral Home with Charles Owen Dinkins of Mayfield, Ky., and Charles Orr of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Butler Cemetery in Weakley County. Visitation was to being at 3 PM today. Named as active pallbearers were George Atkins, Jimmy Cox, Johnny Henderson, Eddie Bell, Larry Joe Bell, Gordon Owen, Stanley Kemp and Tony Owen. Honorary pallbearers are Charlie Beard, Travis Smith, Robert Whitfield, James H. Derrington, J.C. Roberts, Homer Bucy, Bill Perkins, David Edwards, J.D. Browning and Plug Edwards. Miss Butler was born July 9, 1909, in Tennessee, a daughter of the late William Harrison and Augusta Atkins Butler. She taught elementary school for more than 30 years and was a member of the Paris-Henry County Retired Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught church school for more than 40 years, and was a member of the WMU, The Martha Robinson Bible study group and the Philathea Sunday school class. She also was a member of the Iris Garden Club and the Crutchfield Lane Sewing Circle. She is survived by a sister, Miss Ina V. Butler of Crutchfield lane. A brother, George Thomas Butler, died Sept. 1, 1926. |
