William B. “Bill” Caldwell ('43) (center) listens with Guy McCombs (right), pastor of First Christian Church, as Suzanne Richter ('60) of the John Babb Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution reads a plaque honoring Caldwell. A World War II veteran, Caldwell was presented the DAR’s Community Service Award after he spoke to the group about his wartime experiences during the DAR’s regular meeting Friday.

Our hat's off ...

By Bill Williams ('52)

… Bill Caldwell ('43), who epitomizes the “Greatest Generation” label, recognized for his service by the Daughters of the American Revolution. A member of one of this county’s pioneer families, Caldwell has distinguished himself in so many ways it’s difficult to know what in particular he was being honored for. (It was his World War II service, among other things.)
