Obituary

 

Retired teacher and lifetime Henry County resident Regina Presnell Whitfield, 82, of Paris died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Henry County Medical Center.

Her husband was the late Dr. John H. Whitfield, a Paris chiropractor.

Visitation will be today, Feb. 17, from 4-8 p.m. and funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m., both at McEvoy Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery following the service.

The Rev. Pam Hughes, pastor of Lakeside Christian Fellowship, and the Rev. Carlos Owens will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Bob Bertouille, Daniel Williams, Ed Ledden, Jacob Garfinkel, Bob Wilmoth and James Reynolds.

Born Oct. 9, 1927, in the old Dulac community of Henry County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Verner and Nelle Lashlee Presnell.

She was a school teacher in Henry County for 32 years beginning in 1948. She primarily taught home economics. Her sister, the late Marjorie Presnell McCracken, was also a longtime teacher in the Henry County School System.

Mrs. Whitfield was active in the local AARP chapter, Gideons International and Lakeside Christian Fellowship.

She is survived by a stepson, John H. Whitfield Jr. of Sarasota, Fla.; a nephew, George R. (Lynn) Whitfield of Paris; a niece, Nita Whitfield of Cookeville; great-nephews, Robert (Melony), John (Laura) and Cress (Mary Gardner) Whitfield; and local relatives, Jean McKee and Carroll Lashlee.

Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Lakeside Christian Fellowship or Gideons International.
