Virginia Jo Hurdle Wall, 87, devoted wife, loving mother and dedicated friend and teacher, went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 28, 2014. She was born to the late William James Hurdle Sr. and Kate Adams Hurdle, in Paris, Tenn., on May 15, 1927.

She spent her childhood in Trezevant and Paris, Tenn., and graduated from E.W. Grove High School in 1945. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Murray State College in 1949.

While in college she was president of her sorority, Sigma Sigma Sigma. Following graduation she began working in the office at Paris Manufacturing Company, where she met Virgil Wall.

They married on August 17, 1952, at First Baptist Church in Paris, where she was a lifelong member.

She began a lifetime of educating in the Paris Special School District, teaching at schools including Lee School, Atkins-Porter Elementary,    W. G. Rhea Elementary and W. O. Inman Middle School. During
this time, she earned her Master of Arts in Education at Murray State University.
She always loved her students and was loved by them.

After retirement, she and her husband traveled extensively, visiting many wonders of the world. She spoke often of the memories made during these journeys. She never met a stranger, making friends
all along the way. She also loved traveling with the First Baptist Church L. L. L. group.

A competitor, seeking to score high and achieve, she played bridge with long time friends, played radio trivia, and always wanted to find the right answer to questions using reference books and later in life,
the Internet.

She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years and children: Lisa Wall Jobe of Atlanta, Ga.; Michael (Mary) Wall of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Doug (Annie) Wall of Wilmington, N.C.; and Alan (Sheila) Wall of Paris.

Also surviving are grandchildren: Joshua Jobe of Atlanta, Ga.; Matthew Wall of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Ryan Wall of Aberdeen, Md.; Dillon Wall of Greenville, N.C. and Jody Wall of Asheville, N.C.; and Sarah Beth Wall of Cookeville, Tenn. She is survived as well by her sister Amanda Hurdle (Bobby) Hailey of Paris, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brothers James Jr., John and Martin Freeman Hurdle.

McEvoy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m., and from noon until the service at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery.
