Christine Sturdivant Thomas, 96, of Paris, died Friday, July 10, 2015, at Morningside of Jackson after a long illness.

A memorial service is planned from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at the Lunchroom at Lee Academy for the Arts.

Thomas was born Jan. 19, 1919, in Paris to the late Acie B. Enloe Sturdivant and M. “Mattie” Samford/Sanford.

She attended Robert E. Lee Grade School, Atkins-Porter School and Grove High School where she graduated in 1937.

She married the late Pherrell “Spec” Rogers Thomas of Camden on June 23, 1941, in Paris.

Thomas worked briefly at the Mason’s Photography Studio in Paris. A family member said she was devoted to being a mother, wife, friend and daughter, was an avid gardener, and lived most of her life on Routon Street in Paris and Henry County, and briefly in Memphis.

She is survived by two sons: John William Thomas of Paris and Jerry Wayne (Patti) Thomas of Jackson; two grandchildren: Carly Avery Thomas of Jackson and John Reagan Thomas; four great-grandchildren; one aunt: Rachel (Fred) Sturdivant of Paris; several cousins; and five special friends: Lou Thompson, Joyce Brooks, Pat Corley Robertson, Lou Emma Blurton and Mary Lamb.

She was preceded in death by four friends: Margaret Horobitz, Bebeth and Priscilla “Prissy” Parrish and Mary Ruth Owens.
