Retired factory employee Mary Jane Shankle, 88, of Paris died Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at Benchmark Healthcare of Puryear, which formerly was Arbor Place.

She was married on April 2, 1948, to Earl Shankle, who survives.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Jimmy Allison will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday.

Born Aug. 18, 1924, in Henry County, she was a daughter of the late Chester C. Bevill and Ruby McClure Bevill.

Shankle was a 1942 graduate of Grove High School and a member of West Paris Baptist Church. She formerly worked and retired from Holley carburetor plant in Paris. A family member said she was a wonderful cook and well known for her banana pudding and apple cake. She also had a passion for fishing.

She leaves two daughters: Jena Barnes and Judy (Robert “Shag”) Collins, both of Paris; two sons: Alvin (Margie) Shankle and Billy (Sherry) Johnson, both of Paris; one sister: Margaret Bevill of Paris; two sisters-in-law: Eve Bevil of Steamboat Springs, Colo., and Frances Bevill of Memphis;

Eight grandchildren: Heather Ray, Amanda Hendrix, Thomas Johnson, Heather Presson, Marie Lee, Wesley Hardin, Tonya Buxton and Stephen Collins; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She also was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Bill Barnes; four sisters: Eva Bevill, Verleen Bomar, Christine Dunlap and Norma Griggs; and three brothers: Robert, Herbert and Rupert Bevill.
