Ray Clinton Holder, 82, of Huntsville, Alabama, entered eternal rest on August 5, 2016.

Ray was born in Mansfield, Tennessee, son of Joe Clinton and Beulah Lee Norwood Holder.

He learned the value of hard work growing up on a farm, delivering newspapers and working his way through college. Before graduating from Murray State University in 1957 with a degree in Physics, he married his high school sweetheart, Ramelle, in 1956 and later moved to Huntsville to work on Redstone Arsenal following his military service in the Army.

He worked for NASA/Marshall Space Flight Center where he worked on the Apollo, Skylab, Space Shuttle, Spacelab and Tethered Satellite programs among others until his retirement from the government in 1989. He also worked on Space Shuttle mission experiments with foreign liaisons in Florida while working for Teledyne Brown Engineering until 1995.

He is survived by his loving wife, Ramelle; sons, Russ (Lori), Dan and Mark (Susan); grandchildren, Brandon Holder, Morgan Holder, Katie Holder, Emma Holder, and Ethan Holder; step-grandchildren, Courtney Cash-Williams and Carmen Cash; and step great-grandson, Kempton Cash; sisters, Rebecca Bressler and Bobbye Boyd; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and active member of Latham United Methodist Church. He served his church, family and country well and will be severely missed.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, immediately following visitation from 12:30 p.m. 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that blood be donated to a local Huntsville/Madison area service provider or to the American Cancer Society.
