One  of  the  greatest  was  rangy  Dan   King

He's Remembered, Too, For Announcer's Quip

Even if Dan King hadn't been one of the best athletes Henry County ever produced, he would be enshrined in local sports memory because of what Aubrey McGehee said at one game.
The rangy redhead played end on Grove High School's undefeated football team of 1949, while his father's younger brother, Charles 'Chick' King, was halfback on the old single-wing system.
McGehee was a public address announcer for the Blue Devil games

at Grove's Barton Field, and he did it like a play-by-play radio announcer, commenting even while the action was going on rather than waiting until each down was over to tell the result.
His memorable quote concerned a pass play. "Chick King fades back to pass," McGehee told the crowd. "Dan King is going long. 'Throw it here, Uncle Chick."
Both King boys went on to stellar careers in athletics, and if the Henry County Sports Hall of Fame were limited to a half-dozen players, both would probably be included.
