Stanley Hill Cooper, Jr., age 88 of Paris, TN, passed away Monday March 1, 2016 at his residence in Paris.

Funeral service 2:00PM Friday March 4, 2016 at McEvoy Funeral Home with Pastor David Allbritten of Kirksey United Methodist Church, Kirksey, KY officiating, burial will follow at Memorial Cemetery.

Named as pallbearers are George Whitfield, Doug Braden, Fred Patterson, Lou Carter, Keith Chilcutt and Kenny Hunt. Mike Brown, Kenny Paschall, Luke Welch, Jim Rushing, Doc Sanders and John Harrison will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation 4:00 - 7:00PM Thursday March 3, 2016 and after 12:00Noon Friday until service time.

He was born November 18, 1927 in Red Level, AL to the late Stanley Hill Cooper, Sr. and Lois Costen Cooper. On July 24, 1961 he married Dovie Cole Cooper, she preceded June 22, 2011.

Survived by sons: Anthony Costen "Tony" (Becky Martinez) Cooper, Houston, TX, Michael Wallace Cooper, Dallas, TX, Tracy Lynn Cooper, Paris, TN & Dallas, TX, Randall Edwin "Randy" French, Lexington, SC; grandchildren: Ryan Anthony Cooper, Greenfield, TN, Cameron Michael Cooper, Dallas, TX, Sterling Costen Cooper, Dallas, TX, Leah Catherine Cooper, Houston, TX, Lauren Elizabeth Cooper, Houston, Tx; great-grandchildren: Lexi Williamson, Greenfield, TN, Ryker Costen Cooper, Greenfield, TN, Ramsey Cooper, Greenfield, TN, Christina McAlister, Greenfield, TN; special friend: Marge McGarity.

Preceded by a sister: Marjorie Marshall, March 27, 2015.

Stanley was a U.S. Marine veteran and past commander of VFW Post #1889.

He was a three-sport star at Grove, lettering in track, football and basketball before graduating in 1946. He attended Mississippi State University on a basketball scholarship and graduated from Murray State University.

He taught in the Henry County school system for 40 years and coached at Puryear, Henry and Henry County high schools for 25 years.

He also coached at Bethel college in McKenzie for three seasons and finished his coaching career with an overall record of 809 win vs. 400 losses.

Cooper worked with the Elks Hoop Shoot competition for many years and helped direct the former parks program at Ogburn Park. He directed girls’ basketball camps in the summer while coaching at HCHS.

He worked as a referee in junior high and high school games. He also called games in the former Biddy Basketball youth league. For many years Cooper served as an organizer of adult baseball leagues in Henry County.

While at HCHS, Cooper taught driver education and had three students win state championships., age 88 of Paris, TN, passed away Monday March 1, 2016 at his residence in Paris.
