Mrs. A. K. Burton of Durant, Florida,
the former Margarie Katrina Veltman of Paris, died about 1 p.m. Tuesday in a
hospital at Brandon, Florida. In ill health for some time, she was 77.
The funeral is planned Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Ridgeway Morticians, with
burial in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Friday at the
A former teacher at Lee School, Mrs. Burton was born January 2, 1900, in
Paris, a daughter of the late S. j. Veltman and Mary Cameron Veltman. She
married Almon K. Burton on May 20, 1939, and he survives. They made their
home here until about 10 years ago when they moved to Florida. She was a
member of the Church of Christ.
Besides her husband, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Clark
Lampkins of Paris, Mrs. Rozanne Clark Bomar of Jackson and Mrs. Katrina Sue
Clark Deprato of Baton Rouge, Louisana; a son, Baxter S. Clark, Jr. of
Durant; three sisters, Miss Anne Veltman of Louisville, Kentucky, Mr. Rose
Ann Veltman of Brooklyn, New York and Mrs. Cameron Veltman Dawson of West
Chester, Pa.; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are two aunts, Mrs. Queenie Apaulding and Mrs. Lillie
Dillahunty, both of Paris.
A brother, Charles S. Veltman, proceeded her in death.
